Certifications
Eco-OK Certification
The ECO-OK certification process was initiated by Rainforest Alliance, an internationally recognized non-governmental organization, as a way to economically motivate coffee producers to maintain their traditional coffee farming methods, environmentally friendly. Farms that meet the ECO–OK standards retain their life-giving forest cover, protect wildlife, prevent contamination of water supplies, conserve fertile soils, provide respectful conditions for workers and aim toward long-term, sustainable
production.
Organic Certification
Organic coffee is grown without the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers, thereby assuring the health of the soil, the forest and the farmers. The organic certification guarantees the authenticity and credibility of organic products; allowing the producer to obtain an added value for its product.
UNEX is certified by BCS-OKO GARANTIE, an independent controlling agency, which certifies organic products worldwide in accordance with regulations and private standards. This certification allows UNEX to export to the European Union,
United States
and
Japan
, permitting us to offer more advantages to our customers.
100% Bourbon Coffee Certification
El Salvador´s coffee production is composed of 70% Bourbon Coffee, which is among the best varieties worldwide due to its characteristics and qualities. Because UNEX has received the “100% Bourbon Coffee Certification” and by being the largest exporter in the country, the company can ensure the high quality of their Bourbon variety products as well as promote them in the gourmet international market.
C.A.F.E. Practices (Starbucks)
Starbucks Coffee developed socially responsible coffee buying guidelines called C.A.F.E. Practices (Coffee and Farmer Equity Practices) in 2001. These guidelines are designed to work with coffee farmers to ensure high quality coffee and promote equitable relationships with farmers, workers and communities, as well as protect the environment. To become a C.A.F.E. Practices supplier, coffee farmers, processors and exporters, must meet minimum requirements and demonstrate best practices, which are subject to
independent verification under the guidelines, which include: product quality, economic accountability, social responsibility, environmental leadership in coffee growing and environmental leadership in coffee processing. High scoring suppliers receive preferential buying status, higher prices and better contract terms.
UNEX has become a C.A.F.E. Practices supplier, with the status of “Strategic Supplier.” This distinction is only given to the highest scoring suppliers. With this advantage, UNEX helps producers that want to be part of C.A.F.E. Practices, and assures them that their coffee will have all the advantages that this certification can offer them.
